Tetri Tskaro is a town located in the southern part of Georgia, in the Kvemo Kartli region. This area is known for its natural wealth, including the Algeti National Park, home to many rare species of birds and plants, including the nesting site of the griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus).
So far, there has been no meaningful cooperation between the park administration and the residents of the Tetri Tskaro municipality. The great potential of the park, both in terms of nature conservation and tourism promotion, has not been sufficiently utilized.
Volunteers from the Youth Center Tetri Tskaro were not content with this situation and planned the civic campaign “Ecological Club in Samshvilde: Bird Protection ‘Orbi’”. This campaign focuses on engaging local youth and the community in nature conservation activities and improving the management of the national park. The goal is to ensure that by the end of 2025, the park administration will implement its strategies and programs targeting the local population. Thanks to the efforts of local activists, an ecological club will be established in Samshvilde, serving as a center for education and practical nature conservation activities.
HOW WE HELPED
We worked with the members of the Youth Center Tetri Tskaro to plan the steps and phases of the campaign in detail. The organization received micro-grant funding. The plan includes meetings with the national park administration and key partners to enhance cooperation between the park management and Tetri Tskaro municipality. Collaboration will be established with local authorities and community leaders to implement the program. Training sessions will also be conducted for local youth, who will actively participate in monitoring and information campaigns to support nature conservation.
