Accessible City

Organization: Armenian Camp – School of Languages and Sailing

Location: Yerevan, Armenia

Year : 2013

Although around 60,000 people with disabilities and limited mobility live in the capital of Armenia – Yerevan, the wheelchair accessibility to the public buildings, offices and public spaces is minimal. In Armenia, necessary laws and regulations are present, but in reality nothing works. During the construction of new buildings the wheelchair access is ignored, even though the law stipulates otherwise.

The initiative seeks to change this situation. The activists want to establish a dialogue with the town, to raise public awareness about the issue and as the first one they want to promote barrier-free access to the largest Yerevan park. And it does not concern only people with disabilities – also the cyclists, skaters, mothers with children in strollers.

Besides this campaign, the initiative also organizes sports, educational activities and pottery workshops for people with disabilities.
